However, once you’ve found ‘the one’, it’s crucial to know how long it will take for your gown to arrive after you place your order. We’re here to guide you through the typical timelines of the dress ordering process to ensure your wedding preparations run smoothly.

The Ordering Process

Once you’ve made your selection, the first step in the ordering process begins. Most bridal dresses take anywhere from four to six months to arrive after the order is placed. This timeframe allows for the dress to be custom made according to your size and design preferences. We always recommend you start shopping as early as possible to avoid any last-minute stress!

Fittings and Alterations
Getting it Just Right
After your dress arrives, the next phase is to schedule fittings. You’ll typically need at least two to three fittings to ensure your gown fits like a glove. Given that alterations can take additional time, it's wise to schedule these appointments promptly following the arrival of your dress.
We will usually book you an appointment for your first fitting at around 8-12 weeks prior to your wedding date. You will also have an appointment to come along and try your dress on when it arrives with us.

Planning for Accessories

In addition to your bridal dress, don’t forget to consider your accessories! Items such as veils, tiaras, and shoes also require time to order. Ensure you allow for at least a couple of month for your accessories to arrive, so your overall look is perfectly coordinated for your big day.

As your wedding date approaches, it's natural to feel excitement mixed with anxiety. Questions brides sometimes ask.
Brides often worry about a few things prior to their appointment and one common thing is whether or not our sample dresses will fit them.
There is so much misunderstanding around bridal sizing so don’t feel silly to ask if you’re concerned about coming and trying on. That way we can put your mind at ease.
It is good to know that if you are a size 10 in high street clothing, then you could be an 8,10,12 or 14 in bridal. It really depends on the designer so there is no real straight answer as to what size you will need.
We currently stock sizes 6-24 with some larger sizes coming in the near future.
All styles of dresses will fit different bodies differently. This means that you could be a size 12 on top and a 16 on the bottom so a smaller A line dress for example will likely fit.
The main thing is not to worry, if a dress is too big then we can pull it tighter and if it’s slightly small and doesn’t want to fasten then we can hold it together at the back for you. All will be just fine!
If there is a particular size that you wish to try then you can always get into h prior to booking to find out what we have available in that size too
What should I wear to my appointment.
Wear something comfortable and easy to slip in and out of.
If you think you might try a more fitted style then it would be beneficial to wear seamless nude underwear to your appointment. It may also be a good idea to bring along some shapewear if this is something that you might opt for on your wedding day. That way you can really get a true idea of what the dress looks like on instead of being put off by a VPL or black undies!
What are your payment terms?
After you have said yes to your beautiful dress we will go through all the details and contracts etc before we take payment to make sure that you are happy with everything.
There will always be a deposit to pay of 50% to get your dress order secured. We are then able to offer monthly payment plans spread over 1- 4 months with the last payment being due on or before the arrival of your dress.
Of course if you prefer to do so then you can pay for your dress in full too.
Deposits are none refundable as dress orders can not be cancelled so it’s really important to be 100% sure before you commit.
For off the peg dresses we require full payment on the day so that you are able to take your dress away.
We believe that every bride should walk down the isle in the dress of her dreams, so if you find one that’s out of your immediate budget then just let us know and we will try to help with other payment options.
Do I have to pay for appointments.
There is a booking fee of £30.00 for all appointments booked at Yorkshire Bridal Boutique York.
The reason we have decided to do this is because there has been a huge wave of brides booking appointments at bridal boutiques accross the globe and simply not turning up and brides booking appointments just for the experience with actually having no intention of purchasing a dress.
As a small independent boutique with running costs, wages to pay and a family at home to feed we simply can not risk missing out on brides who really do want to find there dress with us so this insures only serious appointments are booked.
If you do infact find your dress with us then we will refund your booking fee against your purchase.
Do I need to pre book my appointment?
It is always best to book in advance to ensure you get the date that best suits you..
We’re open all day Friday to Monday every week and late afternoon/evenings on Wednesday.
If none of those days fit in with your schedule, then please do get in touch as we may be able to accommodate a more suitable day and time.
